At Eternal Creations, we are passionate about supporting families who have experienced loss in their lives.
Our journey started in a small workshop and has grown into a beautiful business with a loyal customer base.
Although the tradition of placing flowers on the graves of
our loved ones have been going on for thousands of years, the custom became popular in America after the Civil War. Most all families of our nation felt the sting of death as the conflict of the states persisted during the 1800’s. As loved ones were laid to rest, friends and families gathered together to recognize the fact of eternal life, as well as offer comfort to one another. The creation of individual flower arrangements enables people to express the emotions of love and respect; to honor a life well-lived and beautify their loved-one’s eternal sacred space of rest.
Fallen soldiers, particularly of World War I, have been honored with the red poppy due to the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ which describes poppies blooming among the graves of soldiers on
the battlefields where the red color of the flower represents the bloodshed in battle. One’s choice of flowers may express a special significance or symbolize specific memories. Particular flowers are known for specific reasons: the peace lily is a popular flower because it represents purity and the joy of eternal life. Red roses symbolize love. Yellow roses are a mark of friendship. Red roses have adorned many caskets because they represent the blood which is the covering found in our hope of resurrection.
The red poppy continues to be a symbol of remembrance for those who died in military service.
Perhaps from the beginning of time, people have recognized flowers as symbols of beauty and the briefness of life.
Wreaths and garlands have been placed on the grave sites to represent the fleeting nature of life. You may have even seen rose petals scattered on graves, which blends the thoughts of mourning and celebration. Carefully selected floral arrangements convey personal thoughts of the deceased, as well as offer comfort and peace to mourners.
Cemeteries are not just places to bury our dead; they are also beautifully adorned areas where we visit, reflect, and remember.
Funerals are not just services to mark the passing of our
loved-one, but they are our chance to celebrate eternal life. Whether through a simple bouquet or a carefully arranged creation, flowers connect us to those we’ve lost and remind us of the beauty and fragility of life.
In 2017, Joel Bennett Avera passed away from Multiple Myeloma. He was the husband of Donna Avera and father of Renia Avera Cook. Over the years, the family has taken turns placing the flowers on his grave.
During this time, it was discovered that Cayce (Renia's husband) had a real talent for designing floral arrangements, and this became a more frequent project for him than the ladies.
With the Cook & Avera families living over an hour apart,
and in different directions, it honestly became more
of a "project" than anticipated.
This led to the idea of helping others with their loved one's gravesites. If you've had more than two conversations with Cayce, you quickly learn that he is an entrepreneur! So, Renia and Cayce are proud to provide Eternal Creations and Services.
